It's a challenge for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have long been mastered.

This is the unit that has won seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the record chasers, are the only things left for a side that has accomplished all there is.

That it took up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase exceeding 300, taking back their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their batters to maintain a record if not afforded the opportunity.

In the end, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy being given a chance to produce her newest gem.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she first played in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her debut and seven international trophies have followed from 10 efforts across formats.

The tough gloveman was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India briefly halted the winning streak.

That loss "motivated us to reevaluate our levels," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She ensured her country would not fail again.

Whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement remains open for discussion.

Many contend the argument supporting final game tension. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's definite is this century was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it was a frustrating experience because I feel like I've had no rhythm at all," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your competitive nature take over and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has consistently been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from there Healy was underway.

"A chance to take the field and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, hitting 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was dismissed her side needed 66 more at run per delivery - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm happy we have the belief to do that now," added Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, if necessary, we know we can do it."

That comment will be the last Australia's opponents at this World Cup want to hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has become more firm - this victory coming after win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy missed because of torn tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she subsequently stated she wished she had played despite the injury.

However although she afterwards confessed those injuries have postponed plans to retire, this championship is anticipated as her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as captain.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
