It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
